Captained by newly appointed Club Vice President James Smith, and resplendent in their new strips, The Wanderers Vets side The Wombats, competed in Mackies "Buttercup Festival" Saturday 29th June.
This was a welcome return for the annual event hosted by Mackie RFC in Stonehaven after a 5 year lay off.
Teams participating were:
Mackie Mammoths
Ythan Bears (Ellon)
Brechin RFC
Wanderers Wombats

Unfortunately Brechin couldn't raise a full team, so the Brechin guys that did turn up were split amongst the other teams so everyone got game time.

1st Match Mackie played Ellon whilst Wanderers watched from the touchlines, Mackie beating Ellon.
Wanderers then played their 1st match v Ellon, despite an interruption to tend to an injured Ellon player, Wanderers went on to win fairly comfortably.
Last Match was Wanderers v Mackie, this was a closely fought match with both teams aware this was the title decider, despite stiff competition, some slick handling handling from Wanderers resulted in enough scores for Wanderers to win and lift the Buttercup trophy.
